  • Q: Where is Bodhana Shasta located?
  • A: Approximately one hour south of the Oregon border, Mt. Shasta sits in the Southern stretches of the Cascade mountain range, and surrounded by historic towns and diverse natural and cultural heritage sites of Northern California. It is a four drive North from the San Francisco Bay Area. The alpine town of Mt. Shasta is right off Highway 5, which follows part of the original 'Siskiyou Trail', and Bodhana is conveniently just a few minutes from the center of town, major services, and local attractions.   • Q: How close is Mt. Shasta?
  • A: The sacred and majestic Mt. Shasta dominates the landscape for miles, and was designated a National Landmark in 1976. Mt. Shasta is one of the tallest mountains in California (elev. 14,179') making it a popular location for mountaineering and backcountry skiing. One of the popular routes, Avalanche Gulch, starts at Bunny Flat Trailhead (7,300'), which is 25 minutes from Bodhana Shasta. Head East from Bodhana Shasta toward the historic town of McCloud on the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway, and the Mt. Shasta Ski Park and Nordic Center is also 25 minutes away.

  • Q: Are there events and activities nearby?
  • A: Mt. Shasta City and the surrounding communities of Siskiyou County support and encourage events and activities year-round. These communities also have robust artist and metaphysical scenes, with galleries and special events. From the local museums and natural and cultural attractions, Bodhana Shasta is a perfect base for sightseeing and adventuring. The town of Mt. Shasta serves as a host to a magnificent 4th of July Celebration, with a charity 5k walk/run and fireworks; the annual Summer Nights; the annual Taiko Festival; and various music events, and a seasonal farmers' market.

  • Q: Is there a caretaker on the property?
  • A: This is a private property and you will always have the grounds to yourself, but on occasion we might have maintenance or security personnel to perform an emergency service or to check on things, but we will try to do so with minimum impact to your stay.

  • Q: Is the property equipped with a full kitchen?
  • A: Bodhana Shasta has a well-stocked kitchen, with 2 electric ovens, a microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and an electric range. We have a coffee maker, a blender, and crock-pot, as well as, a propane BBQ-grill. We have dishware, glassware, tableware, but we cannot account for what condiments are available (we try and stock salt/pepper/sugar), so bring your own specialty items or buy them at the local grocers.

  • Q. Does the property have heat and air conditioning?
  • A: Forced-air heat in the main house and wall-heaters in the Wagon-Creek building. The main house also has a wood-burning stove. There is no air conditioning, but generally the mountain elevation keeps temperatures comfortable during the summer; there are fans and space heaters.

  • Q. Do I need to bring my own sheets, towels, toiletries, hairdryer, and iron?
  • A: Bodhana Shasta is supplied with a range of beds linens, as well as bath and pool towels. We also provide some basic toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner) but we encourage you to bring your own supplies. A hairdryer is provided. Iron/Ironing-board is available.

  • Q: Are Internet, cable TV, and a sound system available?
  • A: Wi-Fi Internet is available, and there is DirectTV satellite and a HDTV in main house. The main living room also has a basic stereo system with an aux-jack to play digital music from your smartphone or ipod-like devices. The Loft and the Game Room have basic televisions only.

  • Q: Is the Pond seasonable?
  • A: The pond (actually a tiny lake, given it is free-flowing) on Bodhana Shasta is a pristine aquatic environment that flows year-round and the water passes through our property before discharging into Wagon Creek then Lake Siskiyou, and ultimately into the Sacramento River. The pond is shallow at spots and do not recommend diving from the zip-line. During the summer season, we have beach furniture on the beach for your enjoyment. A swim in the pond is refreshing!

  • A: There are often some noodles on hand but rafts are not available.

  • Q: Is there a washer and dryer?
  • A: Use of the washer and dryer are allowed sparingly. Bodhana Shasta is on a private water system and doing excessive laundry on-site is not permitted.

  • Q: What safety features are available?
  • A: The living spaces have smoke and CO detectors, and a fire extinguisher in the main house. A First Aid Kit is also available.

  • Q: Are children allowed?
  • A: Yes! Bodhana Shasta is a private property where adults can watch their children explore, dream, and play in nature. The property is adjacent to a national forest, and there are creeks and a pond, a zip-line, and an in-ground trampoline. All these activities require supervision and caution, but kids really have the opportunity to have fun outdoors. Furthermore, the Game Room has books and puzzles and games for all to enjoy!

  • Q. Are pets allowed?
  • A: With prior approval dogs are allowed (not cats). There is an added fee of $40 per pet and a $600 refundable pet deposit (pending inspection within 7 days).

  • Q. Is it OK to host guests or an event like a pool party or wedding?
  • A: While you are encouraged to enjoy your stay, Bodhana Shasta is not a "party house". Guests shall be respectful of the environment, and any special events need to be pre-approved and require additional fees and a different waiver. Noise curfew in Mt. Shasta is 10pm. Due to high fire hazards in the area, no outside fires of any kind are allowed.

  • Q: What is the typical cost of the rental?
  • A: Peak-Season typical costs for 3 nights is $2,873.50 (inclusive of all lodging, tax, and cleaning fees). Off-season typical cost for 2-nights is $1,240 (inclusive of all lodging, tax, and cleaning fees).

  • Q: Do we need to pay anything upfront to secure a reservation?
  • A: 50% of payment is due upon reservation. All other payments are due 30 days prior to Check-in.

  • Q: How does the Security Deposit work?
  • A: The Credit Card Authorization Form (page six) is required to secure your $600 security deposit and is fully refundable within 7 days of your departure, provided the conditions in this agreement are complied with and no damage is done to the property and its contents, beyond normal wear and tear. Additional terms are in the contract/waiver form.

  • A: All guests are required to sign a Vacation Rental Agreement which explains complete payment terms, arrival and departure information, cancellation policy, and conditions and performance standards of your rental.

  • Q: What is your cancellation policy?
  • A: All cancellations must be done in writing for your protection. Although we realize life is dynamic, it is necessary that we enforce our cancellation policy due to the destination nature of our business. Thank you in advance.

    Cancellations made more than 30 days before your arrival date will receive a full refund, less a $150 cancellation fee.

    If you cancel the rental in whole or part on shorter notice than 30 days, cancellation fee and other charges may apply.

  • Q: Are you flexible on arrival and departure times?
  • A: Check-in is 4:00PM and Check-out is 11:00AM. To request for another Check-in time, please contact us in advance and we'll do our best to accommodate your request. If scheduling permits, extended 6:00PM Check-out can be provided for an additional fee.

  • A: After your reservation is confirmed and your final payment has been received, you will get a "Welcome Letter" via email within 24-hours of your scheduled arrival, with key access instructions and directions.
